Can Danny Gokey Afford Designer Wear?
So now that it seems to be out in the open, forum sites talking about him particulary “haters” are asking: “how can danny gokey ‘afford’ designer eyeglasses?” or this nasty direct quote: “So basically he’s milking the supporters of his dead wife for designer eyewear money…”
We are disheartened by all the dirty and nasty talks going around the internet about Danny Gokey (including that of his late wife). Nonetheless, he gave up his privacy the minute he became a celebrity! Fame comes with publicity, good and bad. Trash talking seem to be the people’s number one pastime: just bash on celebrity people’s lives like they’re not human beings or like they’re not going to be affected by it. We can’t please everyone.
But this we have to say to his detractors: You do not know Danny Gokey and what he’s going through. You have no idea how easy or hard life was for him before American Idol. You can hate him sure and even rant about his instant celebrity status but we have no right to demean him as a person and her late wife included because not any one of us know him or them personally.
As for his fashionable designer eyewear: Let it go people! We all have our passions and we strive hard to acquire them no matter the cost or what our status is in life. Let’s all stop being hypocritical! Danny Gokey has every right to “splurge” on whatever it is he wants in life! This is America! Land of the milk, honey and plastics!
The writers here for one are struggling middle-class Americans. But computers are our passion. One has the latest $2,400 Mac notebook, one owns the high-end Sony laptop and the other an ultra high end HP notebook. Each of us has at least 3 personal computers from desktops with 22-inch monitors to 17-inch notebooks to the new and pricey Notebook minis that have the 8 to 10 inch monitors. We have gadgets and gizmos galore from external hard drives, advanced digital/video cameras, iphones, mp3 players, etc. Our point: Can we afford them with our measly paychecks? Certainly not! But we have them anyway and do our best to get the latest trends in technology. We spend on what we love and skimp on all the rest. That’s how we do it! Save on other areas and spend on gadgets. See, we’d rather starve ourselves to get the latest gadget. Forego vacations to get the latest trends. Same with others, those who love to travel save on other things to get that twice a year vacation! Simple as that.
You shouldn’t care about our own money spending or Danny Gokey’s, what we do with our own money is all up to each of us! If you’re so keen on money wasting, why not focus on Obama’s stimulus bill worth billions? He’s using taxpayer’s money, OUR money to help the so-called poor of America who do not pay their taxes! What about the tax-paying middle-class who shoulder all the burden, when do we get our share of the ‘great leader’s’ stimulus pie?

Why doesn’t anyone think it might have just been a good marketing tool for the designers to GIVE Danny some glasses to flash on the show? Maybe they were a gift. Either way, It’s his business, it’s his image and sometimes investment in ones self is the best investment one can make.

Great article! I just wanted to let all those “haters” know that there is something called INSURANCE and also Favor of God!! Danny got a GREAT deal for about 5 or 6 designer glasses for the price of ONE. That stuff don’t happen to everyone but hey! the man has gone through a lot and he well deserves it. I also wear designer glasses and I can tell you that I have NEVER paid over $20 for them!! People need to relax and quit making negative comments! Go Danny J. We love you bro!
Haven’t you people ever heard of overstock.com or eyeglasses.com….I have many pairs of glasses and haven’t paid a fortune for them. You can get a pair of glasses cheaper than shoes….

A) There is a difference between asking a simple question (“where does he get all his glasses?”, “how much does he spend on glasses each year?”, “does he buy them or does he receive them?”, “how many does he have?”, etc.) and making tasteless accusations relating to his loss 8 months ago. Don’t be naive to disregard the “haters” and cover for them. There are tons of anti-Danny Gokey people out there. You just know how to find them. They’re the ones bashing and talk trashing and manipulating others to agree with them! The things they say are really harsh for anybody to fathom.

18 pairs of glasses at $400 each at least, all with the same prescription (since he can switch from one to the other), that’s $7200 within the last (approx.) 5 years. Allow us to doubt that he really bought them all. Especially since we don’t see any of these designer glasses in any of his pictures on the web (and there are lots) before he was on AI. He had those boring conservative thing chrome frames in his pictures for his religious organization.
I like glasses, so I’m always interested in people who collect them. That’s my angle.
The comment about “milking”??? The context with which the forums talked about Danny’s eye wear were in a thread that was negative to begin with. “How can he afford designer eyeglasses?” was a question by an anti-danny which went on to be discussed in a ‘hateful’ manner. As a stand alone question, it sounds harmless. But when it is asked within a thread of discussion that is making fun of Danny and accusing him of things- that to us is ‘hateful.’ How can you hate someone you don’t know?!

Patt, this article has been read by over two thousand people as of this writing before you did. Someone would have pointed this whole thing out and we would have had to shoot ourselves first before writing a direct statement like that against Danny. If we wanted to create a stir by writing such distasteful comment about “milking”, then this whole website defeats the purpose of supporting Danny Gokey. This is a Fan Site for Danny Gokey NOT an anti-danny site. We believe in his talent and we support him all the way to the top.
As we said, there are a lot of people who don’t see what we see in Danny and that’s fine. The difference is we would never bash and trash other American Idol contestants in such a degrading and offensive manner the way they’re doing with Danny. Search for the exact phrase (of the milking) and you’ll find the forum we’re talking about. They don’t just talk about his eye wear there but things you would never even digest if you’re someone with decency and heart. Danny was a regular guy before idol, they don’t know him. Just because he’s on TV now does NOT give them the right to accuse him of anything or write negative things about him which are baseless and clearly tasteless. That’s manipulative!

It’s NOT hateful to ask questions. It becomes hateful when your motive is to incite “hate” and add fire to an already burning wood. The questions asked in forums are ‘hateful’ in nature because the members writing on the thread ‘hate’ danny from the get go because of his back story. you can’t blame the guy for losing a wife it’s his reality and these ‘haters’ who has nothing better to do keep stirring the pot on the poor guy!
I never said YOU wrote the hateful comments. I said you were manipulative by putting in those two quotes (one neutral, one detestable) in the same sentence, along with the word “haters”. I KNOW they are from other people in other websites, and I will take your word that they were written by the same person and that he/she is a hater. You simply should not have written the neutral quote (the innocent question) inside that sentence, because as such you make it sound like that question is also mean.

Work in the business and there is quite a difference in frames. Just because it says it is a designer frame does not mean it is a good frame. The frames Danny wears are not cheap and are of excellent quality. And insurance does NOT pay of all of them . Some insurances only pay every 24 months on a frame. Danny has great taste and wants to look good. What I don’t understand is why Randy Jackson who has a line of frames himself did not comment on the styles that Danny wore. They sure looked better than Randy’s
