American idol theme for tonight

Posted by admin on Wednesday 17 Jun 2009

A very important component of the final shows is the American idol theme for tonight. Every week the twelve competitors go on stage, there is a theme attached to that evening, so the song choice is not really completely random, but has to be coinciding with the theme. The official reasoning behind this regulation is that an aspiring American Idol has to prove his or her versatility and adaptability. The real reason is much more subtle. Different kinds of music appeal to different people, hence broader audience is being targeted, more people will watch the show and ratings go up. Than the singers sometimes have to overcome their personal preferences in order to comply is just an additional bonus for the dramaturgy of the show.

In 2008, after the fusion of two media behemoths Sony and BMG, a huge catalogue of music material became available to American Idol, so the theme for the night could explore even more options than before. The regular nights, which included Billboard #1 hits, Big Band music, Disco, Motown and Broadway musical hits were expanded and could feature hits by Andrew Lloyd Webber, as an example. The theme for tonight practice where a certain artist is being lauded for his music, like it happened previously with Elvis Presley and Queen, now could include music by the Beatles. The guest coach that lead the theme for tonight with his music and coaching the singers and previously included Bon Jovi, Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees and Elton John, could now allow Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton and Neil Diamond to participate. Such evenings where an American idol theme for tonight is featured have proven to be real audience magnets. Not only do the contestants sing very well known hits by a largely accepted and beloved artist, but sometimes the artist himself is present and can not only attribute to the show, but give to contenders to the American Idol throne valuable advice and guidance. The very same featured artist usually performs on the night where the results are given, and not the same day the aspiring Idols are performing, removing any subliminal direct comparison but keeping the spirit of the competition alive and furthermore promoting the gracious artist and his current work. Another really amusing theme for tonight is when the singers have to pick a song from the year when they were born, thereby having to pick sometimes completely out of their comfort zone. American idol theme for tonight is just another reason why this show is so immensely popular.
